Lee Roy Smith was the spark in a family of wrestlers that became legendary. Lee Roy began wrestling in the 4rth grade when the wrestling coach for his elementary school asked the guys on the team to go a takedown with him on the playground. With the little knowledge that Lee Roy had he managed a takedown and instantly was part of their team.
He developed into a top recruit in high school. He won Oklahoma State twice in high school and also was a two time junior national champion. At Oklahoma State he was coached by the late Tommy Chesbrow. In 1980 Lee Roy Smith capped his career with an NCAA national title.
Lee Roy Smith didnít stop there he went on to become a World's Silver Medalist in Freestyle in 1983. He passed his knowledge and ability to his younger brothers John, Pat and Mark. Between them they have 7 National Championships and 14 All American Honors.
Currently Lee Roy Smith heads the Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
